SEIU Local 1 and SEIU Local 73 announced their endorsement of Alexi Giannoulias for mayor of Chicago, underscoring organized labor’s growing support for Alexi’s vision of a more affordable city that puts working families first. The endorsements bring together thousands of frontline workers who keep Chicago running, from janitors and security officers to public employees and essential service workers. The unions cited Alexi’s record of standing with working people, raising wages and supporting policies that strengthen workers’ rights and expand economic opportunity. The endorsements come as Alexi continues building a broad coalition to demand better from City Hall, with a focus on making Chicago more affordable, protecting good-paying union jobs, and delivering a city government that works for working families in every neighborhood. SEIU Local 1 represents more than 30,000 workers across Chicagoland, including janitors, security officers, airport workers, residential door staff, and other essential workers.
